Background of Chapter #270

CEC Chapter #270 was brought into being through the efforts of Dr. Patty O’Grady while she served as program administrator for CSPD (Comprehensive System of Program Development). The chapter was chartered in 2001 and is to serve the South West Florida region including Charlotte, Lee Collier, Hendry and Glades Counties.

Due to the large geographic region that the chapter covers, the Executive Board will always include a representative from each of the counties. The first President of Gulf Coast Chapter # 270 was Ruth Ann Worman from Hendry County. Ruth Ann served as president while attending graduate classes at Florida Gulf Coast University.

With an original membership of 12, the chapter has expanded and grown to over 50 members in a relatively short time. One of the goals of #270 is to continue to recruit and maintain our membership growth in order to improve the quality of professional development of special education in South West Florida.

Florida CEC Gulf Coast Chapter # 270 is the newest and youngest CEC chapter in Florida. We are an ambitious group and have big plans for the future.
